Beware of Hacker Attacks That Take Advantage of the Concern Surrounding the Disappearance of Malaysian Airlines MH370

The disappearance of Malaysian Airlines MH370 has aroused the concern of people around the globe, and more and more countries have become involved in the search. As the eyes of the world are focused on the on going search,Baidu Antivirus Security Center has discovered that cybercriminals are attempting to take advantage of the situation to launch targeted attacks.

Based on the information monitored by the Baidu Antivirus Security Center, cybercriminals are primarily using an"exclusive" video about the disappearance of Malaysian Airlines MH370to lure users (In reality, there is no official information about the where abouts of MH370. This allows cybercriminals to lure many people who are looking for answers into watching the video and achieve their ulterior motives).

Some hackers use emails to attract attention to the Malaysian Airlines MH370 video and trick users into downloading an email attachment. This file contains a virus and uses a Flash icon to increase its credibility. Baidu Antivirus security experts have determined that this attachment is a backdoor. After a computer is infected, it will become an unwilling puppet, able to be manipulated by the hackers (e.g. it may be forced to download and run online banking trojans from a server,or the hacker may remotely activate the computer's camera)

Baidu Antivirus security experts have also discovered that some hackers are using Facebook to popularize their fake Malaysian Airlines MH370 video.Users are curious and want to watch the video, but the website forces them to share it on Facebook before they can view it (the goal of the hackers is to spread their virus through Facebook so that their site will attract more traffic). These scams will prompt users to take several surveys ordisplay so-called discounts (giving the hackers revenue from ad clicks). After these cybercriminals get what they want, users eventually discover that they cannot even view the Malaysian Airlines MH370 video.

The Baidu Antivirus Security Center has noticed that cybercriminals continually exploit major events, for example the Security Center previously reported on hackers using the 2014 FIFA World Cupand World of Warcraft release to spread viruses and scams.

Baidu Antivirus security experts would like to remind Internet users to look for the latest information regarding Malaysian Airlines MH370 on reputable new sites. When using the computer,be sure to enable Baidu Antivirus Real-time Protection.Baidu Antivirus can promptly block various targeted attacks.
